VALS is the acronym of Bogotá’s roadie morning classic “Vuelta A La Sabana”, and GraVALS is its gravel cousin. This slightly shorter variant starts and ends on the same paved roads as VALS, but the middle part takes in some lovely gravel roads with great views. This route is a great way to warm up for the start of a longer trip, and acclimatise to Colombia’s altitudes and gradients. There are shops, cafés and restaurants all along the route, and on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays you’ll find yourself surrounded by loads of local cyclists.
