Jerusalén – Choachí

This popular route takes you out of Bogotá using the Alto de Patios paved climb, before turning off onto the dirt just past the Teusaca River. After a few kilometres of rolling terrain, you reach a short but mighty gravel wall up and over the brow of a hill, with gradients reaching 20%. After that, it’s basically a 30km gravel descent down into Chaochí through the villages of Jerusalén, El Trenta y Seis and Potrero Grande, with a couple of gentle climbs that link up the different downhill segments. The road surfaces are mostly hard-packed gravel and not technical, the vistas are fantastic, there are loads of places to stop for food & drink on the way, and if you do this route on a Sunday morning you’ll meet loads of local gravel and MTB riders on the first part to El Trenta y Seis. The only real challenge of this route is the strain on your arms, legs and butt of the long gravel descent.
