El Calvario – Fómeque
This rollercoaster route goes from El Calvario to Fomeque through the rugged mountains of the Eastern Cordillera, and it’s just as insane as the route to El Calvario described in another post, perhaps a little more so as the total elevation is the same over a shorter distance. The route is 95% gravel and climbs over four passes of varying elevations and intensities. Although none are quite as long or intense as El Calvario, added together they make for tired legs by the end of the day. The pain is worth it though for the epic vistas along the entire route and the crazy 11km (average -10% gradient) descent in the middle. There are a few small villages along the route where you can stop for refreshments.
