Sueva – Junín

This short but challenging route takes you through some incredible mountain scenery to the east of Bogotá. The route starts about 80km outside the city, but it’s worth the effort as the paved road there includes the mythical Cuchilla climb, the gorgeous ride across Páramo Grande and the breathtaking descent down into Sueva. The dirt road itself takes you across the River Sueva and up the other side of the valley, with spectacular views back across to the descent as you traverse some fairly challenging terrain. From Junín you can either ride back to Bogotá, or carry on exploring the valleys, lakes and tunnels of the picturesque Guavio region. There are lots of shops and places to stay in Guasca (before the Cuchilla climb), Sueva and Junín, but basically nothing between the towns.
